Get Involved in MOvember This Year
Across the globe, men die earlier than women and many times these deaths could have been prevented if men were more invested in their health and wellness. Movember is a ground-breaking programme that casts the spotlight on this epidemic by raising awareness about men’s health. Besides raising awareness, Movember also raises money to help men live happier, healthier and longer lives.
How to stay healthy
There are many things that men can do to focus on staying healthy. Besides regularly checking your testicles and visiting a doctor if something doesn’t seem right or feels off, it’s also important to talk to your doctor about prostate cancer screenings when you reach the age of 45.
Cancer isn’t the only thing that is having a negative impact on men’s health. Men are often less likely to reach out and ask for help, even if they are always willing to help others in their social circle. According to the Movember Foundation, 70% of men say their friends can rely on them for support, but only 48% say that they rely on their friends for support. Make sure that you stay connected to friends and family. Schedule outings that you enjoy and have open conversations about your health with the people who matter to you.
Growing the Mo!
With so many men dying before their time, the Movember Foundation needed a high-impact way to draw people’s attention to their cause and compel them to take action. On the 1st of November, men start clean shaven and grow their unique moustaches throughout the month. Many Movember participants grow impressive moustaches and raise some serious funds for their efforts.
Besides growing a moustache, there are also other ways to get involved. Men and women take part in the Move initiative where they set a distance goal on the 1st of November and swim, row, run or cycle to achieve the distance goal. Funds are also raised and donated towards these efforts. This way, everyone can do something good for their own health while also contributing to the cause.
How to donate
If you want to donate to the cause, there are a few different options to consider:
- Once off donation to your Mo Bro or Mo Sista: Visit the Movember Foundation’s donation page and do a name search for you Mo Bro or Mo Sista, then login and donate.
- Once off donation to Movember: You don’t have to limit your donations to November. You can make a once-off donation to the Movember Foundation anytime of the year on this page.
- Get your employer to match you: Team building activities are becoming dull and nothing unites staff as much as a cause. Many businesses are fund matching their employees’ Movember efforts. Ask your employer if they will match the amount of your donation to make even more of a difference!
Schedule me-time and lead a balanced life
Another way to keep your health and vitality up is to stay active and schedule me-time. Whether you’re into trail running and cycling, enjoy leisurely strolls with your partner or friends, or need a massage, it’s important to make time for the activities that rejuvenate you.
